Salt & Light

While listening to "Say so" by Israel Houghton, there's a verse
that goes

to be salt and light to the world...

what does that mean to you?

Great question melody. I'm not sure of the context in the song but this is obviously a reference to Mt. 5:13-14.

13."You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt has become tasteless, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled under foot by men.
14."You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden;" (NASB)

To me (and I like to break things down into 1 or 2 sentences) Jesus tells us that we should strive to remain "salty" after the point of salvation; to keep that enthusiasm alive. After all, we are "the light of the world" - set apart as Paul would say - to spread the Good News among all nations. This does not mean we are better than others, but that we have a role as Christians to witness to others.

..but maybe someone more eloquent than me can give a better explanation.
I can do all things through Him who strengthens me.
