War on Spam

Postby HB Admin » Fri Oct 06, 2006 8:39 pm

We've recently made a few changes (you can't see 'em, but they're there!) that should cut down, if not entirely eliminate, the ridiculous amounts of spam we've been getting.

The thing is, if the changes cause any problems for legitimate posters, we'll have to seek alternate solutions. So please: Post away, and let us know if you notice anything strange, especially if something you try to post won't work.

Thanks!

Well. That didn't work; at least I don't think it worked. There's no telling how many spam attempts were thwarted by the new measures, but enough is still getting through to irritate me, so the second wave will be unleashed this evening.

Please, keep posting while I work this out.

Hi. We've disabled self-authentication. Didn't want to do it, because we like the idea of registering and immediately being able to participate, but the spam was turning into a personal downer. Can't have that. All authentication will be done by administration now, and we'll try to be quick about it.
